Amit Kumar
Amit Kumar, Kishore Kumar’s son, is a multifaceted personality like his late father. His early years were spent in Kolkata where he did his schooling and college. His inevitable style and voice, very much like his father’s, got Amit a loyal fan following pretty soon.
Amit came to Mumbai at the age of 18. His father introduced him at a special music concert called ‘Daddy Kishore and Sunny Amit together’. Amit’s first Hindi song was Main ek panchhi matwala re from Door Ka Rahi, but Kishore da felt that since he was the composer, filmmaker, writer and actor of the film, getting Amit to sing was not right. So the song was removed from the film.
Amit has since sung for music directors like Salil Chowdhury, Madan Mohan and others. An outstanding composer himself, he has some excellent Bengali songs to his credit. In recent times he has sung Chore ki baten for Fight Club followed by Dil mein baji guitar for Apna Sapna Money Money, which proved to be massive hits. Among his new releases is a song with Asha Bhosle in the film Dhamaal.
Bappi Lahiri
Bappi Lahiri is the man who pioneered disco music in
Bollywood. He was especially popular in the 1980s with films
like Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal and Sharaabi
among others.
Bappi and Kishore Kumar were one of the greatest combos in Bollywood music. Their association lasted till Kishoreda's death in 1987. Bappi, like many other music directors, found Kishore Kumar a suitable singer for the unique tunes he composed. The popular hits of Bappi from movies like Namak Halal and Chalte Chalte were the contributions of Bappi and Kishore.
In 1984, another opportunity struck the duo in Sharabi for which Kishoreda
sang Jahan chaar yaar and won the Filmfare award.
Sudesh Bhosle
Sudesh Bhonsale, popularly known as Amitabh Bachchan's singing voice, has sung for more than 50 films, including the recent Vivah, the not-so-old Jogger's Park and Company, besides a string of Bhojpuri films.
Sudesh started his career singing at concerts and imitating celebrities. Simultaneously, he used his talent for mimicry to become a professional dubbing artiste. His ability to mimic and sing caught the attention of R D Burman, who played a major role in giving him a break in the industry. He soon became an integral part of Music Makers, Kishore Kumar's troupe, which was a successful orchestra group that toured widely in India and abroad in the 1980s. As part of Music Makers, Sudesh got to know Kishore Kumar closely. Sudesh shared a close rapport with Burman and continues to share a warm bond with Asha Bhosle.
Very few people know that Sudesh Bhonsale completed Kishoreda's incomplete songs after his untimely death.
