Rajeshwari Sachdev
Rajeshwari
Sachdev started her career on stage doing plays with The Indian
People's Theatre Association (IPTA) at Prithvi. She went on
to do films and won the Maharashtra State Government Award for
Best Actress in her debut film Aaytya Gharat Gharoba
directed by Sachin. Her role in Shyam Benegal's Sardari Begum
got her the National Award for Best Actress in a Supporting
Role.
Then she blazed the television screen in Margarita and bagged the Screen Videocon Award for Best Actress. Rajeshwari's big Hollywood break came in the form of the Bernado Bertolucci directed epic Little Buddha, opposite Keanu Reeves.
Being a performing artist, it was only natural that this bundle of talent went on to explore new fields. With 13 years of training in Bharata Natyam, the only other field left to explore was singing. In 2004, she accomplished that, too, with three pop CDs-Hulle Hullare, Mukhda Piya Ka and Ummang.
Her most recent appearance was when she matched steps with husband Varun Badola
in Nach Balliye, where she emerged as a graceful danseuse.
Babul Supriyo
Babul Supriyo, aka Supriyo Baral, was born in Kolkata.
His musical roots can be traced to his grandfather, Banikantha
N C Baral, who was a famous Bengali vocalist and composer.
Babul started trained in music from a very early age and won
a string of awards in singing all through his formative and
educative years in school, college and university.
Babul, who had a lucrative job at Standard Chartered Bank,
gave it up to pursue his first love-singing. He migrated to
Mumbai in 1992 and made a humble start to his career by rendering
cover versions of popular Kishore Kumar songs for T-Series.
Kalyanji-Anandji gave him a break by taking him for overseas
concerts with Amitabh Bachchan and others.
Today, at the age of 30, he is regarded as one of the most
promising talents around. He is the voice behind the nation's
current heartthrob, Hrithik Roshan. His idol, however, is
Kishore Kumar who he says sang with feeling, like a hero and
sang for suit any situation. He admits that he probably has
traces of Kishore Kumar's style in his singing, too.
